| Safety database search tool prototype |
| Project Requirements |
| RSSB required a web enabled application to search their disparate safety data
sources to retrieve related safety records and events. The data sources
consisted of Access, Excel, Oracle and PDF documents. The application had to
export the data to Excel and have a layer of authentication. The data sources
had several levels of security requiring access permissions, direct access and
requests for commercially sensitive data. |
| Solution |
| Hyperdrive Solutions created a web enabled application using Microsoft’s Visual
Studio .NET. Form based security and the drag-and-drop ability of Visual Studio
was used with great effect to rapidly generate the prototype. SQL Server was
used as the data manager in the form of linked servers to connect to the
various different data sources. Index server with an iFilter was used to
categorise the various PDF and Word documents. Open query SQL statements were
generated dynamically depending on the keywords and categories chosen by the
user’s search criteria. |
